Comic News for the Week 12/12-12/22

Comic News for the Week

By Joe Naz (Naz_islike)

Well, to say the least there was a lot of comic book news that were released this week. One of the biggest stories involves the series Sandman to hit the big screen with the help of Joseph Gordan Levvit. For more into on that you can check it out (here). As for everything else, let’s quickly run down the list and see what we got here!

1) Another spin on the rumor mill for the Superman/Batman movie is that WB wants Joaquin Phoenix as the main villain for the film. This would put him with Mark Strong and Bryan Cranston up for grabs as the main villain in the film.

2) Adding to the Superman/Batman film, David Goyer, the writer for Man of Steel, will have his script scraped. Chris Terrio, the writer for Argo, will be taking over duties to write up a draft for the film.

3) Jeff Lemire, writer for one of DC’s best on going titles Animal Man… will no longer be on going! Animal Man #29 will be the final issue and drop sometime in March. No one will be picking up the series, the series will just end. I’m pretty sad about it but hey, 29 issues is a hell of a long time to be writing a series now a day.

4) Amazing Spider-Man 2 facebook released a new poster for the movie. Lots of lighting covering Manhattan. Kind of seems there making Electro a pretty damn serious threat to Spider-Man. I’m very interested to see a Green Goblin poster, I’m sure we’ll get one at one point. Another thing people may have missed is that Sony plans on making a Sinister Six spin off film and one of my favorite anti-heroes, Venom.  Both spin offs are expected to appear after Amazing Spider-Man 3

5) Shia LaBeouf was caught copying Daniel Clowes comic Justin M. Damiano. Daniel Clowes had no idea his comic was used as a basis for a short film and is looking to settle this with Shia LaBeouf. When he apologized to Daniel Clowes for using his work without permission, Shia LaBeouf plagiaried an apology out of mother fucking yahoo answers. I shit you not!

Yahoo Answers “Merely copying isn’t particularly creative work, though it’s useful as training and practice. Being inspired by someone else’s idea to produce something new and different IS creative work, and it may even revolutionalize the “stolen” concept. But note that there’s a difference between flat-out plagiarizing and meditating very creatively on an earlier artist. See below for a good example of the latter:”

Shia LaBeouf- “Copying isn’t particularly creative work. Being inspired by someone else’s idea to produce something new and different IS creative work. In my excitement and naïveté as an amateur filmmaker, I got lost in the creative process and neglected to follow proper accreditation. Im embarrassed that I failed to credit @danielclowes for his original graphic novella Justin M. Damiano, which served as my inspiration. I was truly moved by his piece of work & I knew that it would make a poignant & relevant short. I apologize to all who assumed I wrote it. I deeply regret the manner in which these events have unfolded and want @danielclowes to know that I have a great respect for his work.

God damn how you going to fuck that up honestly!

6) Fuck yeah bitchhhhhh!!! Paul Rudd is negotiationg a deal to become Ant-Man in Marvel’s new film. I love Paul Rudd, to say the least, so I’m stoked about all of this. I think Rudd will blend well with Edgar Wright’s directing style. Ant-Man is slated for a 2015 release.

7) Inhuman, which was supposed to be the leading comic for Marvel Now second wave, has been delayed from December… to April. A hell of a delay, caused by writer, Matt Fraction, leaving the book. Marvel and Fraction say that they could not meet on a middle ground and find a place to work with. Marvel has instead brought in Charles Soule, writer for Swamp Thing and currently Thunderbolts, will be taking up duties on the Inhuman. Inhuman would take place after Marvels latest event, Infinity.

Inhuman #1 synopsis “After the fall of the Inhuman City Attilan and the explosion of the Terrigen Bomb, thousands of people across the globe with no connection to the strange super race have transformed into Inhumans! The transformations have given them powers that are dangerous and terrifying, making them targets. With Inhuman king Black Bolt believed dead, is there anyone for these new Inhumans to turn to?”
