The thing about NYCC (Part I: Passes)…

Author: Jay-Rey (@jay_rey)

I have mentioned it before: Geek culture is no longer on the fringes of the mainstream conscience. While it was once weird for Joey Fatone to have Superman shirts all the time, now it is standard practice for everyone to love comic books. Sure, we hear reports about superhero movies breaking box office numbers. But never has been more prevalent than the recent sale of New York Comic Con passes.

On June 18, 4 Day passes became available for purchase at noon. Within 40 minutes, they were sold out. To put that in context, last year 4 day passes took 8 weeks to sell out. 3 Day passes took a little over an hour to sell out this year. While this is a really cool thing to see, it has irked many convention lovers.

First, here is the story of the 3 day passes. While the 4 day pass sales were extraordinarily short, the 3 day pass sale was an event. At noon, like many others, I entered NYCC’s queue to purchase tickets. Like on the 4 day pass day, you would have been greeted with the following page:

Ticket Queue Page

But on June 18, there was an issue that cause this page to show and error message instead.

Titanfall F2P This Weekend Only!

Author: Jay-Rey (@jay_rey)

I never wrote up a review for Titanfall, but here it is: I love this game. It is one of those first person shooters that breaks the mold that Call of Duty and Battlefield have so neatly fit into since their dominance over the genre. And now you can play it for free.

https://www.origin.com/en-us/news/play-titanfall-free-game-time

Origin is starting what they call Origin Game Time. They will periodically set a game up with Origin Game Time, which is basically a timed demo. Think if Steam’s Free Weekend. The first title for Origin’s new marketing strategy is Respawn Enetertainment’s Titanfall. This weekend, you will be able to play the depute IP  from the re-branded developer that was once Infinity Ward. You’ll have 48 hours to to participate in a really fun gaming experience.

World Cup Stars and their Comic Counterparts (Part II)

**NOTE: As I am still an American, I will refer to “football” as “soccer.” Suck it, rest of the world.**

I believe I speak for everyone when I say that the World Cup has not disappointed. At all. Some of the soccer stars highlighted in Part I of my series have shined like the badass superheroes they are. Some have not. Tim Cahill, who I compared to Wolverine, struck a thrashing volley with his Adamantium-boned  left foot. Clint Dempsey, or Iron Man, managed to weave his way through the Ghana defense with an entire nation on his back and score in the first thirty second of the USA’s first group match. He continued to play after getting his nose annihilated.  America. Ronaldo… Well, Ronaldo did this. Oh well, can’t win ‘em all. Anyway, here’s a list of other notable soccer studs who play The Beautiful game in a heroic-ish and/or villainous way.
